IBM FlashSystem data storage systems

IBM FlashSystem is a data storage system based on IBM FlashCore Modules, NVMe technology, and IBM Storage Virtualize software. This provides high performance, storage virtualisation, Multicloud support, and reliability with HyperSwap for data access in the event of a failure.

The FlashCore Module (FCM) drives, which are designed and manufactured by IBM, support large data volumes and provide a latency of 50 microseconds.

FCM modules are available in the following capacities: 4.8, 9.6, 19.2 and 38.4 Terabytes.

The FlashCore Module drives support hardware-based 3:1 data compression algorithms and can store up to 116 terabytes of data per module. In addition, these modules provide data security with FIPS 140-3 Level 1 encryption.

IBM FlashSystem supports both FlashCore Module and standard NVMe or Storage Class Memory (SCM) drives.

When using standard NVMe or SCM drives, Data Reduction Pool (DRP) technology is used to provide the required level of data compression.

Standard NVMe drives are available in the following capacities: 1.92, 3.84, 7.68, 15.36 and 30.72 Terabytes.

SCM drives are available in a capacity of 1.6 Terabytes.

Depending on the storage system model, you can install from 12 to 48 NVMe drives per system.

The storage systems support connectivity across host technologies: Fibre Channel 16/32Gb/s, and Ethernet 10/25Gb/s, 100Gb/s, as well as NVMe over FC and NVMe over TCP.

The following IBM FlashSystem storage systems are available for order: 5200, 7300 and 9500.

IBM FlashSystem storage systems are used in the following solutions: SAP, Oracle, DB2, Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Exchange, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, PowerVM virtualisation environments, Red Hat OpenShift container orchestration systems, VMware Tanzu and Kubernetes.
