IBM Power servers

IBM Power servers are based on 10th generation RISK IBM Power processors and can run the following operating systems: IBM AIX, Linux.

IBM Power servers are divided into 3 classes: Enterprise, Midrange and Scale-out.

The Scale-out class of servers includes an additional category of servers that are designed exclusively for the Linux operating system and workloads running on Linux, such as SAP HANA.

Scale-out servers support the installation of 1 or 2 sockets (processors) with a maximum number of 48 computing cores and a maximum amount of 8 terabytes of RAM per server.

Enterprise-class servers support the installation of 4 to 16 sockets (processors) with a maximum number of compute cores of up to 240 and a maximum amount of RAM of up to 64 terabytes per server.

Midrange servers support the installation of 2, 3, or 4 sockets (processors) with a maximum number of compute cores of up to 96 and a maximum amount of RAM of up to 16 terabytes per server.

IBM Power servers support high-speed PCI Gen5 adapters for I/O operations.

IBM Power servers support the PowerVM virtualisation environment and are recommended for the following workloads: Red Hat OpenShift, SAP HANA, Oracle Database, DB2 Database.
